Greens Improve Performance

6 02 2011

Randy Couture has used Green Drinks as part of his supplement regimen for 15 years.  Greens improve your health and athletic performance.  Randy Couture has the highest quality greens product on the market.  4Ever Greens from XCAP.

You will benefit from adding 4Ever Greens to you diet.  Pro fighters at Xtreme Couture take a scoop of these greens after every training session.  This is something that is very simple and healthy to do.

Want More Efficient Muscles? Eat Your Greens!

After taking a small dose of inorganic nitrate for three days, healthy people consume less oxygen while riding an exercise bike. A new study in the February issue of Cell Metabolism traces that improved performance to increased efficiency of the mitochondria that power our cells.

The researchers aren’t recommending anyone begin taking inorganic nitrate supplements based on the new findings. Rather, they say that the results may offer one explanation for the well-known health benefits of fruits and vegetables, and leafy green vegetables in particular.

“We’re talking about an amount of nitrate equivalent to what is found in two or three red beets or a plate of spinach,” said Eddie Weitzberg of the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. “We know that diets rich in fruits and vegetables can help prevent cardiovascular disease and diabetes but the active nutrients haven’t been clear. This shows inorganic nitrate as a candidate to explain those benefits.”

In fact, up until recently nitrate wasn’t thought to have any nutritional value at all. It has even been suggested that this component of vegetables might be toxic. But Weitzberg and his colleague Jon Lundberg earlier showed that dietary nitrate feeds into a pathway that produces nitric oxide with the help of friendly bacteria found in our mouths. Nitric oxide has been known for two decades as a physiologically important molecule. It opens up our blood vessels to lower blood pressure, for instance.

The new results show that increased dietary nitrate can have a rather immediate effect.

“Among the more consistent findings from nutritional research are the beneficial effects of a high intake of fruit and vegetables in protection against major disorders such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes,” the researchers concluded. “However, the underlying mechanism(s) responsible for these effects is still unclear, and trials with single nutrients have generally failed. It is tempting to speculate that boosting of the nitrate-nitrite-NO pathway may be one mechanism by which vegetables exert their protective effects.”

As an interesting aside, Weitzberg says that the benefits of dietary nitrates suggest that powerful mouthwashes may have a downside. “We need oral bacteria for the first step in nitrate reduction,” he says. “You could block the effects of inorganic nitrate if you use a strong mouthwash or spit [instead of swallowing your saliva]. In our view, strong mouthwashes are not good if you want this system to work.”

GMO Food makes you Grow a Third Ear

15 07 2010

Just so you know, 4Ever Greens by XCAP does NOT contain any GMO’s like other green drinks !!!

Randy Couture basis his nutrition program around taking 4Ever Greens once or twice per day.  Randy has taken green drinks for many years and swears by them.

Well, they may not make you grow a 3rd ear but they can cause many problems.

Wonder what a GMO is?

Read this by: Al Sears, MD

Did you hear the one about the mutant potato that almost took over Europe?

The United Kingdom (UK) had this big idea to create a new kind of potato. It would be resistant to all insects. It would grow so well, it would feed all of Europe.  The plans were to genetically modify the DNA of the potato so it would release a lectin. A lectin is a natural insecticide found in foods like beans, seeds, and grains.

Turns out, the potato caused serious organ damage when it was fed to animals. They found pre-cancerous growths in their digestive tracts. It destroyed their immune systems. They soon became sick and weak and they had smaller brains, livers, and testicles.

Then there was a huge cover-up. It took an act of Parliament to bring it out into the open. Since then, Europeans have banned genetically modified organisms (GMOs) from any product used for human consumption.

If this potato had been created in the U.S., you could be eating it in the French fries you get at McDonald’s.  Unlike the UK, our government has taken the stance that GMOs are safe.

Mega-giant seed corporations like Monsanto want to prevent any bad news about GMOs getting out to the public. They require anyone who buys genetically modified seeds to sign what they call a “technology stewardship agreement.” What does that mean?  It prohibits the buyer from doing any research on the seed.

In other words, no one who has access to these “Franken-foods” is allowed to find out if they’re safe.  But evidence of the dangers is leaking out from Europe, Russia, and many other countries around the world.

Here are just some of their findings: (3,4,5,6,7,8,9)

·    Allergies increased. When GMO soy was introduced, allergies jumped by 50%. Allergen proteins were 7 times higher. Some were unique only to GMO soy.

·    It wreaked havoc on digestion and the absorption of nutrients. Digestive enzymes plummeted, and GMOs caused lesions in the digestive tract.

·    Proteins that control stress response and energy creation in cells changed. This resulted in faster aging of cells.

·    It caused reproductive problems. Sperm cells had trouble developing, and embryos showed altered genes. Offspring were smaller, and many more died.

Now, here’s the second part of our problem in the U.S.: Food manufacturers don’t have to tell you when products have GMOs. About 75 percent of American farms grow GMOs. Almost 90% of the soy… more than 60% of the corn… 75% of the canola, and 50% of the Hawaiian papaya crops.

So, what can you do?

First, I recommend you avoid all non-organic soy, corn, and canola products.  Next, eliminate commercial beef and poultry from your diet. They are raised on GMO corn, soy, and grains.

If you eat out, eat at restaurants that cook from scratch. Avoid suspect GMO foods like corn chips, tortillas, soy sauce, and sweet corn. If they use oil to cook, ask them to use a non-GMO oil such as olive, sunflower, or safflower.

To Your Good Health,

Al Sears, MD

Gluten Free in 4Ever Greens from XCAP

6 04 2010

I have been getting a lot of questions about Gluten. So here is the official answer. I hope this clears it up.

By the way, I frequently do a blood test on patients and athletes for food sensitivities. This is a great way to improve your health by eliminating foods, sweeteners, dyes etc that are causing problems in your system that you may not even be aware of. Gluten frequently comes up as a problem for many people and when they eliminate the things that are problems, they feel and perform much better.

Currently in the US there is not a “Gluten Free” standard that the FTC or FDA has adopted.

The European standard is less than 25 parts per million. The issue in the US is that it is impossible to harvest the grains and store them in a silo, etc. and have zero parts present. The consensus is, the US is going to adopt the European model at 25 parts per million.

Currently there are companies in the US who claim to be Gluten Free, but if tested will have some trace amount detected and since the US does not have a standard, these companies who claim to be Gluten Free, even with a trace element, is causing issues for them.

At XCAP, our product 4Ever Greens, meets the European model to contain less than 25 parts per million.

Do you have Too Much Estrogen ?

1 04 2010

First off, you need to realize this; there are different types of Estrogens that naturally occur in the body. Just like there are different types of cholesterols, some are “good” and some are “bad”.

If you are a man or a woman, you want to have a good ratio of good to bad estrogens. Just like cholesterol; too much bad estrogen in relation to good estrogen can cause a lot of problems in your body.

The XCAP green drink (4Ever Greens) contains broccoli sprouts that block the “bad” estrogens and help the “good” estrogens. This is probably the single most beneficial and healthy supplement on the market.

Here is some more in depth info on the XCAP website about how and why people became so overloaded with Estrogen and why you should take 4Ever Greens to help block bad estrogens.

Randy Couture’s supplements for UFC 109 (very detailed)

5 02 2010

Randy Couture’s supplements for UFC 109

I have gotten a few emails asking how we change Randy’s supplement schedule.

Randy takes quite a bit of supplements to keep him in top form.

For the last 2 training camps we have modified a few things based off what was needed from micronutrient testing.

(Randy has been in 3 back to back to back training camps at age 46.  Most fighters half his age are burned out after 1 training camp, let alone 3 in a row.  This is what we do to keep him going)

Remember, this is extensive because it is an example of what an elite athlete needs to do to keep his body functioning at a top level and slow the over oxidation (aging) that occurs when one is doing an extreme amount of exercise.  I am talking about intense workouts, twice a day for months on end.

He is taking the following things daily from XCAP:

(These are the things he takes regularly)

Vita D – 3 drops

Max EFA’s – 6

B12 Nitro – 3

Joint Flex – 3

Optimum T – 6

Adrenal Glandular – 6 to 9 depending on how he feels

IGF Blast – 6

Natural Mins – 4

O2 Plus + – 6 to 8

Xtra Enzymes – 16

4 Ever Greens – 2 scoops

Whey Isolate – 4 scoops

AA Resveratrol – 6

Below are things that he has added because of the constant training camps.  These were only added after extensive testing.  You don’t need to add these things just because Randy is taking them right now.  The basis of his program is the supplements listed above from XCAP.

We added the following things based on lymphocyte micronutrient, spectox and telomere testing:

(These will be taken up to UFC 109 then stopped.  Randy will be retested before his next training camp and we will decide what to from there.)

Phosphatidylserine – 3  (helps lower cortisol and boost testosterone)

Lipid Sirt – 4  (helps stop cholesterol oxidation)

Super Phosphozyme – 2 (balances calcium ratio)

Alpha Lipoic Acid – 3 (reduces oxidation)

CoQ Zyme – 3 (reduces oxidation in mitochondria)

Selenium -1 (anti-oxidant mineral)

Bio B with C – 1 (specific ratio of B vitamins to bring up a low level)

Iodizyme-HP – 1 (iodine for thyroid support)

Chlorocaps – 2 (chlorophyll to support hormones)

Cytozyme PT/HPT – 6 (Pituitary gland support)

Cytozyme orchic – 3 (testicular gland support)

L-Glutamine powder – ½ scoop (amino acid replacement)

NAC – 3 (production of glutathione)

Have your kids been Sick this winter?

17 01 2010

I posted this because I get questions about what to give sick kids all the time and when I look on facebook, I see a lot of posts about sick kids. Some of the posts even talks about the stuff parents are giving their kids like Nyquil, cold remedies, etc…

My personal thoughts on all these cold remedies are that they are not only harmful to your kids, but they prolong the illness. Do your own research; I wouldn’t give them to my dog, if I had one.

Just so you know where I am coming from, my 11 year old has never taken a medication such as an antibiotic. I have used many vitamins, minerals, herbs, spices etc. over the years to keep his immune system strong. I am not saying medications don’t have a place, I am saying that they are widely overused and often cause more problems than they help.

Due to extremely busy schedules as most of you can relate to, I got a bit lazy in what I was giving my kids for breakfast. So as a result, my kids were sick a bunch last school year. My now 6 year old missed 30 days of school last year. He was in kindergarten and the kids passed around one virus after the next.

So I made some changes to their breakfast after the school year to optimize their immune systems. I admit it, we were lazy and were just giving our kids cereal for breakfast. Obviously, cereal is quick and easy, but it is not what I would consider a healthy breakfast and for that matter I would consider it a bunch of crap.

This school year, my 6 year old has only missed a couple of days and he wasn’t really sick on those couple days, he basically had a sniffle and I let him stay home and play video games.

Here is how I changed what I was giving the kids at breakfast. I now make them a shake with the following ingredients.

I use 2 cups of ice water,
1 scoop 4Ever Greens (from XCAP)
2 scoops of Whey Isolate (from XCAP)
1 gram NAC
5 grams L-glutamine
I blend it and give my 11 yr old about 60% and my 6 yr old 40%.

Then I do a couple more things.

I give my 11 yr old 2 drops of Vita D (from XCAP) and my 6 yr old 1 drop.

(you may have seen a blog I posted earlier where I said that a blood vitamin D level above 60 is related to a strong immune system and many scientists believe that this level makes it almost impossible to get the flu)

I give my 11 yr old 4 Natural Mins (from XCAP) and my 6 yr old 2 Natural Mins. They chew them up and swallow them.

The last thing I do is I give them both MaxEFA’s (from XCAP). They break them open with their teeth, swallow the liquid and spit out the gel cap. My 11 yr old takes 3 and my 6 yr old takes 2.

Yes, they bitched and moaned about their new breakfast for 2 weeks. I told them there was no video games or TV in the house unless they drank it. They complained but did it anyway. They stopped complaining and now ask for it for breakfast. So be strong and make the changes.

Sometimes they like to eat some raw nuts while they drink the shake. My 11 year old prefers almonds and my 6 yr old prefers pecans. Personally I like walnuts.

I hope this helps you if you’re having frequent sick kids. I know it helped mine.

Remember, I am not telling you to skip medical care, I am telling you what I did that strengthened my kids immune systems which meant they were much healthier this school year and as parents you want to do the right thing to keep your kids healthy.

Sex every 48 hours helps your hormones!

14 12 2009

by Blood Doc John
I attended the annual American Anti-Aging Symposium in Las Vegas last week.

It is a huge event every year with some of the latest research being presented by top doctors and scientists from around the world.

I will share some things that you will find interesting from this last week.

1. Nutrition, Exercise and Sleep are the most important things that effect how you age. (duh, right! Well this was addressed by nearly every speaker)

2. To Look better, Feel better and have better sex eat 75% – 85% plant foods. (Vegetables and fruits). I think the rest should be wild caught fish, grass fed meat and nuts.

3. Flu – when Vitamin D blood levels are over 60, it is very hard for that person to get the flu.

4. For optimal hormones, you should have sex every 48 hours. (This is obviously a favorite)

5. Adrenal Stress is a huge problem in all of society and affects every system of the body in a bad way. (This is why XCAP has the product Adrenal Balance)

6. Systemic Enzyme Therapy has a positive influence on wide ranging therapies including making hormones work better. (This is why XCAP has the product called Xtra EnZymes) People that even take Human Growth Hormone get much better results when taking enzymes.

7. Telomeres are the hot topic since the Nobel Prize was given a few months ago. Preservation of telomeres is helped with Vitamin D (XCAP Vita D), a proper ratio of omega 3’s and vitamin E (XCAP Max EFA’s), anti-oxidants and vegetables (XCAP 4Ever Greens).

8. One company is working on a patent to actually extend telomeres. I had a long conversation with them and will keep you informed on this.

9. Athletes that have taken steroids and human growth hormone may have greatly shortened their telomeres. This is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Short-term success for long-term disaster. Lengthening the telomeres is very important to these people.

10. Energy medicine using sound waves with multiple frequencies and lasers are becoming very popular due to their ability to help heal. They are even used to rebuild collagen in the face to turn back the clock.

Refined Foods Promote Aging – 4Ever Greens fight back

24 11 2009

Refined Foods promote aging – 4Ever Greens fight back

Antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies block the free radicals created by junky foods.

Diabetes researchers at Children’s Hospital Boston just published an interesting experiment in which they tested the effects of sugary, starchy diets on the “antioxidant capacity” of people’s blood.
The antioxidant capacity of blood is a measure of its ability to control the potentially damaging “pro-oxidant” compounds called free radicals.
As the Children’s Hospital researchers wrote, “Oxidative stress, caused by an imbalance between antioxidant capacity and reactive oxygen species [free radicals], may be an early event in a metabolic cascade elicited by a high glycemic index (GI) diet, ultimately increasing the risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.” (Botero D et al. 2009)

By “high-glycemic”, they mean a diet high in sugars and starches that produce rapid, steep rises in blood sugar levels … an effect that, over time, can lead to diabetes.

In other words, sugary, starchy, high-GI diets yield lots of free radicals, which damage cells and promote inflammation. As a result, an excess of free radicals increases your risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The Boston-based doctors enrolled 12 overweight or obese men aged 18-35, and assigned them either to a diet with a low glycemic index (GI) rating or a high-GI rating.

A week later, they measured the total antioxidant capacity (AOC) of the men’s blood, and on day 10 they measured cardiovascular disease risk factors in their blood.

As they reported, “… total antioxidant capacity was significantly higher during the low-GI vs. high-GI diet …” (Botero D et al. 2009)

In other words, diets low in sugars and refined starches left the men’s bodies better able to prevent the ravages of uncontrolled free radicals.
This outcome prompted us to look for anti-sugar measures … and we found encouragement in clinical results published jointly by scientists from the USDA, UC Davis and the University of Maine.

This team set out to tackle a key question: Does it matter when you eat colorful, antioxidant-rich plant foods?

The answer, as it turns out, is “yes”.

Before we review that study’s outcomes with regard to timing of antioxidant intake, let’s review the reasons why dietary antioxidants matter.

Free radicals, antioxidants, and aging
When unstable oxygen molecules called “free radicals” grab electrons from the chemical compounds that form our cells’ membranes, energy centers (mitochondria), and genetic material (RNA and DNA) that common chemical reaction is called “oxidation”.

Oxidation is the same chemical process that rusts iron, and it is an important driver of aging and disease.

Free radicals are a normal byproduct of food metabolism … but these pro-oxidants get created in excess when we consume refined carbohydrates (sugars and white starches), and that excess can overwhelm the body’s internal antioxidant network.

Our bodies’ own network of antioxidants usually controls free radicals pretty well, but the excess generated by eating starchy, sugary foods can overwhelm that system.

Uncontrolled free radicals can damage the linings of our arteries and promote the inflammation that underlies and drives major degenerative diseases from Alzheimer’s, cancer, cataracts, and macular degeneration to diabetes.

Meals high in sugars and starches generate swarms of free radicals and downstream inflammatory effects in the body.
Thankfully, the available lab and clinical research suggests that the antioxidants in colorful plant foods such as berries and greens can help control meal-generated free radicals (Natella F et al. 2002; Kay CD et al. 2002; Mazza G et al. 2002; Ko SH et al. 2005).

This is another reason to use 4Ever Greens and 1/2 cup of blueberries in your recovery shake.

In addition, plant-borne antioxidants exert generally anti-inflammatory influences over cellular genetic switches called transcription factors.
Clinical tests find timing critical to a key benefit of food-borne antioxidants
Researchers from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) measured the blood antioxidant capacity (AOC) of subjects in a series of five clinical trials.

They found that antioxidant-rich foods blunted the oxidative stress generated by eating meals high in protein and refined carbohydrates and fats (Prior RL et al. 2007).

When the participants ate antioxidant-rich fruits – such as blueberries, grapes, and kiwifruit – the antioxidant capacity of their blood rose during the critical few hours following a meal.

But those antioxidant-rich foods reduced oxidation the most when they were eaten as part of a meal … or soon thereafter.

Conversely, participants who consumed protein, carbohydrates, and fats without substantial antioxidants showed a decline in the blood’s antioxidant capacity (AOC).

The USDA study also determined whether the various fruit or berries consumed increased the water-soluble or fat-soluble antioxidant capacity of participants’ blood, measured on a standard scale called oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC).

To get this data, the researchers conducted five clinical trials with six to 10 subjects per experiment. Blood samples were taken from the subjects before and after they ate a prescribed meal, to measure their blood’s AOC.

Eating blueberries or grapes with a meal yielded an increase in water-soluble AOC, while blueberries also increased the fat-soluble AOC of participants’ blood.

Cherries eaten with the meal increased the fat-soluble, but not the water-soluble AOC of participants’ blood.

Surprisingly, neither prunes (dried plums) nor prune juice altered either measure of antioxidant activity, despite plums’ high ranking on the standard ORAC scale.

The ORAC scale is based on test tube measurements, so scientists at Cornell University propose a new measure of antioxidant activity called the cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) assay, which tests antioxidant compounds’ activity inside cells.

As expected, eating a meal low in antioxidants – animal protein plus refined carbs and fats – cut participants’ blood AOC and produced an increase in oxidative stress.

Lead author Ronald Prior said it’s not just what you eat but when you eat it that matters: “Phytochemicals in foods have varying degrees of bioavailability and generally are cleared from the blood 2-4 hours after they’re eaten. Ensuring that your body has a steady supply of antioxidant-rich foods can help combat oxidative stress throughout the day.” (WBA 2007)

And he went on to add this important note on the quantity of antioxidant-rich foods needed to yield measureable effects on someone’s blood AOC:
“The more calories you take in the more dietary antioxidants you need. It takes about 2.5 servings of antioxidant containing fruits and/or vegetables in a meal … to prevent oxidative stress following the meal.” (WBA 2007)
