Randy Couture’s supplements for UFC 109 (very detailed)

Randy Couture’s supplements for UFC 109

I have gotten a few emails asking how we change Randy’s supplement schedule.

Randy takes quite a bit of supplements to keep him in top form.

For the last 2 training camps we have modified a few things based off what was needed from micronutrient testing.

(Randy has been in 3 back to back to back training camps at age 46.  Most fighters half his age are burned out after 1 training camp, let alone 3 in a row.  This is what we do to keep him going)

Remember, this is extensive because it is an example of what an elite athlete needs to do to keep his body functioning at a top level and slow the over oxidation (aging) that occurs when one is doing an extreme amount of exercise.  I am talking about intense workouts, twice a day for months on end.

He is taking the following things daily from XCAP:

(These are the things he takes regularly)

Vita D – 3 drops

Max EFA’s – 6

B12 Nitro – 3

Joint Flex – 3

Optimum T – 6

Adrenal Glandular – 6 to 9 depending on how he feels

IGF Blast – 6

Natural Mins – 4

O2 Plus + – 6 to 8

Xtra Enzymes – 16

4 Ever Greens – 2 scoops

Whey Isolate – 4 scoops

AA Resveratrol – 6

Below are things that he has added because of the constant training camps.  These were only added after extensive testing.  You don’t need to add these things just because Randy is taking them right now.  The basis of his program is the supplements listed above from XCAP.

We added the following things based on lymphocyte micronutrient, spectox and telomere testing:

(These will be taken up to UFC 109 then stopped.  Randy will be retested before his next training camp and we will decide what to from there.)

Phosphatidylserine – 3  (helps lower cortisol and boost testosterone)

Lipid Sirt – 4  (helps stop cholesterol oxidation)

Super Phosphozyme – 2 (balances calcium ratio)

Alpha Lipoic Acid – 3 (reduces oxidation)

CoQ Zyme – 3 (reduces oxidation in mitochondria)

Selenium -1 (anti-oxidant mineral)

Bio B with C – 1 (specific ratio of B vitamins to bring up a low level)

Iodizyme-HP – 1 (iodine for thyroid support)

Chlorocaps – 2 (chlorophyll to support hormones)

Cytozyme PT/HPT – 6 (Pituitary gland support)

Cytozyme orchic – 3 (testicular gland support)

L-Glutamine powder – ½ scoop (amino acid replacement)

NAC – 3 (production of glutathione)

What Randy Couture Eats

I asked Randy to write down exactly what he eats and here it is.

He walks around at 224 lbs when he fights heavyweight and gets more “strict” with his diet when he fights light heavyweight. When he follows the diet below he has been walking around at 216 lbs.
Notice, that Randy is working out twice per day at a very high level and he is not overdoing the “carbs” like some people believe is necessary.

7 am Before morning workout Banana

8am Morning Training – Fitness or Boxing

10 am Breakfast
Egg whites, turkey, green chili’s, oatmeal, fruit

1 pm Lunch
Chicken wrap or turkey sandwich

3pm Shake, 1 scoop 4Ever Greens, 2 scoops Whey Isolate

4 pm Workout – Pro Training

7 pm Dinner
Always a salad, then everything else varies. This depends how I feel and what the next workout looks like. Sushi, pasta, steak, salmon.

10 pm Shake. It varies. Always 1 scoop 4Ever Greens, 2 scoops Whey Isolate. Things that are added for variety: Coconut Oil, Berries, Berry juice, Almond Milk

11 pm Always in bed by now.

I take the following supplements from XCAP

I have Blood Doc John do blood tests and tell me exactly what to take. It makes a huge difference in how I feel and recover.

B12 Nitro, IGF Blast, AA Resveratrol, Adrenal Glandular, Vita D, Joint Flex, Max EFA’s, Zinc Clutch, Optimum T, Natural Mins, O2 Plus+ and Xtra Enzymes.

UFC Legend Randy Couture Gives $50,000 to Wounded Soldiers

(Las Vegas, NV January 29, 2010) Randy Couture Continues to be a class act both in and out of the Octagon.  This time Couture gives almost $50,000 worth of supplements to  America’s Hero’s Wounded In Action.

Perhaps the most recognized name in mixed martial arts (MMA) and true role model to those in the sport,  Couture continues to lead by example.  Couture, has shown to be an inspiration to the masses outside of MMA as well.  Excelling in almost anything he has ever done, from wrestling, to MMA, to acting, Couture always gives back, and most of the time people will never hear about it because he does it for the cause not the publicity..

International Journalism Review (IJR) commends Randy Couture’s most recent donation to the  Walter Reed Medical Center to help America’s wounded soldiers. Couture donated $49,278.93 worth of supplements (now known as XCAP) to help aid in their rehabilitation and recovery.

Couture told us, “You’d be surprised how physically fit and how much physical rigor that goes into rehab for these guys. Getting fitted for prosthetics, learning to walk, learning to do a lot of things that we all take for granted.  I’m fortunate to be in a position to help them in their recovery”

Randy Couture served 6 years in the US Army before his incredible and ongoing career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).  Coming off a seemingly easy win over top ranked Brandon Vera at the age of 46 is just another notch on Couture’s belt of life.

In 2007 Randy Couture formed a non profit organization called Xtreme Couture GI Foundation to raise money and increase awareness for those wounded in action and their families.

This past December Randy made a visit out to Walter Reed where he had the privilege of meeting many of the injured troops and while on his trip Couture donated $100,000 in cash that had been raised through the GI Foundation to 10 families in need.

For more information on his non-profit organization and or would like to donate to his foundation for this great cause please visit www.xtremecouturegifoundation.org.

MaxEFA’s slow Aging

Posted in Aging, Max EFA's by xtremecoutureathleticpharmaceuticals on January 27, 2010

MaxEFA’s Slow Aging by Keeping DNA “Caps” Intact

The results of a new study suggest that (MaxEFA’s) may also act to protect our DNA from decay … a fundamental level in the fight against premature aging.

Scientists looked at the length of DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes ─ called “telomeres”─ that shorten as cells replicate and age.

Findings now add fish-borne omega-3s (MaxEFA’s) to list of telomere protectors.

Researchers based at the University of California conducted a study designed to determine whether omega-3 blood levels were associated with changes in telomere length among heart patients with coronary artery disease.

Specifically, they compared the lengths of telomeres in the participants’ leukocytes – a type of blood cell – at the beginning and end of a five-year period.

After comparing the starting lengths of the cardiac outpatients’ telomeres with their length after five years, the researchers found that people with the lowest omega-3 levels experienced the speediest rate of telomere shortening.

In contrast, those with the highest omega-3 levels showed the slowest rate of telomere shortening.

Naturally increase Growth Hormone

Posted in Hormones by xtremecoutureathleticpharmaceuticals on January 25, 2010

How do you increase Human Growth Hormone naturally without drugs?

1. I tell people to use IGF-Force from XCAP.

(3 tablets when you wake up and 3 tablets at bed. Sometimes I go with 4 and 4)
I also like to use Optimum T at the same time because I think they work better when used together.

2. It is a little known fact that athletes in contact sports have low HGH. They have even done studies on boxers, which show boxers have low HGH. So I can imagine the same results can be applied to MMA and Football. The pituitary gland makes HGH, so I help repair the pituitary gland with pituitary glandular. This is something I must be contacted for.

3. Get to bed by 10:30 and sleep for 8 hours. Sleep can make a big difference.

4. Exercise with weights or kettlebells for short periods of high intensity.

5. You can also take some amino acids right before bed with the IGF-force.

6. We also take a shake after working out that is high in amino acids and L-glutamine. We do not take a shake with a bunch of sugar in it. See my Blog on a recovery drink.
Here it is:
1. 2 cups of ice water
2. 2 scoops of Whey Isolate (from XCAP)
3. 1 scoop of 4Ever Greens (from XCAP)
4. 1 gram of NAC (N-acetly-l-cysteine)
5. 5 – 15 grams of L-glutamine
6. ¼ – ½ cup blueberries (organic)
7. ¼ – ½ cup unsweetened pomegranate juice

XCAP does not sell Amino Acid pills. However the Whey Isolate has a high level of amino acids and Branched-Chain Amino Acids in it. I only recommend NAC, L-Glutamine and Amino Acids from a trusted and regulated source. You can email me for specifics.

Zinc and Vaginal Candida

Posted in Candida, Zinc Clutch by xtremecoutureathleticpharmaceuticals on January 23, 2010

ZINC
From Edman and associates, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Their study indicated that zinc deficiency is associated with recurrent vaginal candida.

Our clinical investigation using the Zinc Taste Test (ZTT) with Zinc Clutch, confirmed the original research.

One area where clinician’s often fail is – if the patient fails the test https://www.xcap.tv/ZINC_TASTE_TEST.pdf (is unable to taste the liquid) they place the patient on zinc tablets rather than Zinc Clutch.

If you review the original research on the ZTT, you will find that the researchers indicated that the patient must stay on the zinc sulfate (Zinc Clutch) until they could taste it. It did not make sense to me why they could not substitute one form of zinc for another, but again our clinical research confirmed their research (use up to six teaspoons full a day).

Have your kids been Sick this winter?

Posted in 4Ever Greens, Max EFA's, Natural Mins, Sick Kids, Vita D, Whey Isolate by xtremecoutureathleticpharmaceuticals on January 17, 2010

I posted this because I get questions about what to give sick kids all the time and when I look on facebook, I see a lot of posts about sick kids. Some of the posts even talks about the stuff parents are giving their kids like Nyquil, cold remedies, etc…

My personal thoughts on all these cold remedies are that they are not only harmful to your kids, but they prolong the illness. Do your own research; I wouldn’t give them to my dog, if I had one.

Just so you know where I am coming from, my 11 year old has never taken a medication such as an antibiotic. I have used many vitamins, minerals, herbs, spices etc. over the years to keep his immune system strong. I am not saying medications don’t have a place, I am saying that they are widely overused and often cause more problems than they help.

Due to extremely busy schedules as most of you can relate to, I got a bit lazy in what I was giving my kids for breakfast. So as a result, my kids were sick a bunch last school year. My now 6 year old missed 30 days of school last year. He was in kindergarten and the kids passed around one virus after the next.

So I made some changes to their breakfast after the school year to optimize their immune systems. I admit it, we were lazy and were just giving our kids cereal for breakfast. Obviously, cereal is quick and easy, but it is not what I would consider a healthy breakfast and for that matter I would consider it a bunch of crap.

This school year, my 6 year old has only missed a couple of days and he wasn’t really sick on those couple days, he basically had a sniffle and I let him stay home and play video games.

Here is how I changed what I was giving the kids at breakfast. I now make them a shake with the following ingredients.

I use 2 cups of ice water,
1 scoop 4Ever Greens (from XCAP)
2 scoops of Whey Isolate (from XCAP)
1 gram NAC
5 grams L-glutamine
I blend it and give my 11 yr old about 60% and my 6 yr old 40%.

Then I do a couple more things.

I give my 11 yr old 2 drops of Vita D (from XCAP) and my 6 yr old 1 drop.

(you may have seen a blog I posted earlier where I said that a blood vitamin D level above 60 is related to a strong immune system and many scientists believe that this level makes it almost impossible to get the flu)

I give my 11 yr old 4 Natural Mins (from XCAP) and my 6 yr old 2 Natural Mins. They chew them up and swallow them.

The last thing I do is I give them both MaxEFA’s (from XCAP). They break them open with their teeth, swallow the liquid and spit out the gel cap. My 11 yr old takes 3 and my 6 yr old takes 2.

Yes, they bitched and moaned about their new breakfast for 2 weeks. I told them there was no video games or TV in the house unless they drank it. They complained but did it anyway. They stopped complaining and now ask for it for breakfast. So be strong and make the changes.

Sometimes they like to eat some raw nuts while they drink the shake. My 11 year old prefers almonds and my 6 yr old prefers pecans. Personally I like walnuts.

I hope this helps you if you’re having frequent sick kids. I know it helped mine.

Remember, I am not telling you to skip medical care, I am telling you what I did that strengthened my kids immune systems which meant they were much healthier this school year and as parents you want to do the right thing to keep your kids healthy.

What should I do for a recovery drink?

Posted in Recovery Drink by xtremecoutureathleticpharmaceuticals on January 16, 2010

Shall I listen to the bodybuilding magazines that push products from supplement companies that are making ridiculous claims with their products that are loaded with ingredients that are not healthy for you?

Or……. shall I do something that is going to help me recover and is actually healthy and good for me?

We choose to take stuff that is healthy for us rather than consume a bunch of ingredients that have a bunch of side effects.

What are some of these ingredients that we do not think are a good idea to take? :

Corn sugars such as maltodextrin and high fructose corn syrup for starters. Do a google search and read for hours about the potential problems caused and how controversial this is. Even more so now, you will find that there is an even bigger controversy about corn products in general because of the large percentage of GMO (genetically modified) sources used from corn. Read and make your own choice, but I can tell you that I don’t recommend them for my top athletes or my children for that matter.

Next on the list would be artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal), Sucralose (Splenda), Acesulfame K etc..

Here is another category that whole books have been written on so you can do your own research. I will tell you this, there are over 900 published studies on the health hazards of aspartame. There is a concern that acesulfame K is a potential carcinogen and we can go on for days about sucralose, such as how it reduces the amount of good bacteria in your intestines by 50%, or that is can cause depression, migraines, bloating and rashes to name a few.

The next time you decide to use a recovery or energy drink, take a look at the ingredients and you may find that you quickly change your mind about what you decide to put in your body.

Here is a link to a blog we posted so athletes could look at their products and see the potential side effects from the artificial sweeteners in them.

http://xcapnews.wordpress.com/category/artificial-sweeteners/

So what do we do instead? What is the healthy alternative?

We make our own shake that is extremely beneficial for:
Recovery
Health
Aging
Cancer prevention
Hormone support
Anti-oxidants
Detoxification
Blood pH
Immune system support
Inflammation
Liver protection
Glutathione production.

Here it is:
1. 2 cups of ice water
2. 2 scoops of Whey Isolate (from XCAP)
3. 1 scoop of 4Ever Greens (from XCAP)
4. 1 gram of NAC (N-acetly-l-cysteine)
5. 5 – 15 grams of L-glutamine
6. ¼ – ½ cup blueberries (organic)
7. ¼ – ½ cup unsweetened pomegranate juice

Artificial Sweeteners…Are they safe?

Posted in Artificial Sweeteners by xtremecoutureathleticpharmaceuticals on January 15, 2010

XCAP does NOT use artificial sweeteners !!!!!!!!! However, if you look at most supplements, they are loaded with artificial sweeteners.

We get lots of questions about why we DON’T put artificial sweeteners in XCAP’s Whey Isolate or 4Ever Greens.

These sweeteners are highly controversial and we choose not to put ingredients in our products that have such potential harm. If you’re consuming a food or beverage created in a lab instead of by nature, you can be assured your body doesn’t recognize it. This opens the door to short-term and long-lasting health problems for you and your family.

There is simply way to much negative information to put in a Blog. Thanks to Dr. Mercola for providing such in depth research on the nightmares of artificial sweeteners. He has a popular book about the history and dangers of these ingredients if you want to know all the nitty gritty details.

Check the labels of the supplements you are using. You may find that you quickly change your opinion of some of the supplement products you thought were so healthy !

Acesulfame K

Many scientists opposed the introduction of acesulfame-K as a sweetener, protesting that the safety testing was seriously flawed. The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has repeatedly expressed concern that acesulfame-K is a potential carcinogen.

Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal)

You may get mad if you read this…

If you know the right people you can basically do what you want. I will keep this short. This is one of the most potentially dangerous and controversial food additives in human history. This has a long political background relating back to 1965.

In 1977, the future Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, was hired as the CEO of Searle. He appointed his D.C. buddies to high-level positions in the company.

Rumsfeld was part of newly elected President Ronald Reagan’s transition team — a team that had carefully selected Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes Jr. as the new FDA Commissioner. Dr. Hayes appointed an internal panel to review the 1979 decision by the Public Board of Inquiry that ruled thumbs down on final approval of NutraSweet.

Three of the five members of Dr. Hayes’ panel advised against approval of aspartame, citing on the record that Searle’s safety study tests were flawed. Hayes then appointed a sixth member to the panel who tied the vote three-three. Dr. Hayes then cast the deciding vote in favor of approval.

Hayes, an official with no background on the subject of food additives, claimed aspartame was safe for proposed use, and had undergone more testing and scientific scrutiny than most additives on the market. Shortly after approving this drug he resigned from the FDA panel and was hired by the manufacturer of aspartame for a position in which he was paid several hundred thousand dollars per year.

Less than a year later, the FDA had recorded 600 consumer complaints of headaches, dizziness and other health-related reactions from aspartame consumption.

There are over 900 published studies on the health hazards of aspartame.

There are also some 10,000 documented reports of adverse reactions to aspartame, including death. Since it is estimated only about one percent of people who experience a reaction report it, it is safe to assume at least a million people have had a reaction to this chemical.

Migraines are by far the most frequently reported reaction. Other commonly reported symptoms of an aspartame reaction include:
Headache, change in vision, sleep problems/insomnia, hallucination, memory loss, nausea and vomiting, dizziness/poor equilibrium, hives, change in mood, convulsions and seizures, change in heart rate, abdominal cramps/pain, rash, fatigue and weakness, diarrhea, joint pain.

Among the risks, the phenylalanine in aspartame dissociates from the ester bond and increases dopamine levels in your brain. This can lead to symptoms of depression because it distorts your serotonin/dopamine balance. It can also lead to migraine headaches and brain tumors through a similar mechanism.

Furthermore, the aspartic acid in aspartame is an excitotoxin. Excitotoxins are usually amino acids, such as glutamate and aspartate. These special amino acids cause particular brain cells to become excessively excited, to the point they will quickly die. Excitotoxins can also cause a loss of brain synapses and connecting fibers.

Then the ester bond in aspartame is broken down to formaldehyde and methanol, which have their own toxicities. So it is not surprising that this popular artificial sweetener has also been found to cause cancer.

Sucralose (Splenda)

The approval was given after the FDA supposedly reviewed more than 110 animal and human safety studies, but out of these 110 studies, only two were human studies, and the longest one was conducted for four days!

And, those animal studies reveal plenty of problems, such as: Decreased red blood cells — sign of anemia. Male infertility by interfering with sperm production, as well as brain lesions. Enlarged and calcified kidneys. Spontaneous abortions in nearly half the rabbit population given sucralose, compared to zero aborted pregnancies in the control group. A 23 percent death rate in rabbits, compared to a 6 percent death rate in the control group.

A study published in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health found that Splenda reduces the amount of good bacteria in your intestines by 50 percent.

Reported side effects:

• Skin — Redness, itching, swelling, blistering, weeping, crusting, rash, eruptions, or hives (itchy bumps or welts).
• Lungs — Wheezing, tightness, cough, or shortness of breath
• Head — Swelling of the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, or throat; headaches and migraines (severe headaches)
• Nose — Stuffy nose, runny nose (clear, thin discharge), sneezing
• Eyes — Red (bloodshot), itchy, swollen, or watery
• Stomach — Bloating, gas, pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or bloody diarrhea
• Heart — Palpitations or fluttering
• Joints — Joint pains or aches
• Neurological — Anxiety, dizziness, spaced-out sensation, depression
